The calculator is being connected. It will work here soon.

The element balance calculator counts how your planets are spread across the four elements of fire, earth, air and water. It then shows which element dominates, which is thin or missing, and what that suggests about your style. The calculator is not live yet. This page explains what you will see and how to read it.

What are the four elements in astrology?

Each of the twelve signs belongs to one of four elements. Each element is a way of meeting the world.

Element Signs Core style
Fire Aries, Leo, Sagittarius Energy, enthusiasm, initiative
Earth Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn Practicality, patience, results
Air Gemini, Libra, Aquarius Ideas, communication, perspective
Water Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces Feeling, intuition, connection

How does the calculator count the elements?

It takes the sign of each planet and adds it to the matching element. Most astrologers count at least the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Many also add Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and the rising sign. The calculator shows a simple count and a weighted view. The weighted view gives extra weight to the Sun, Moon and rising sign, since they are the most personal points.

If you do not know your birth time, the rising sign is left out and the result is marked as approximate.

How do I read my element balance?

Look at three things.

  • The dominant element. This is the one with the most planets. It describes your default style, and others tend to notice it first.
  • The weakest element. This is the one with the fewest planets. It describes a style that comes less easily.
  • The spread. Check whether the elements are fairly even or whether one or two clearly lead.

Take a chart with four planets in fire and none in water. It may feel energetic and direct, while working through emotions takes more conscious attention. People will see you act fast, so leave yourself room for feelings.

What if an element is missing?

A missing element is a place to grow, and it is no flaw. Astrologers suggest finding that quality in other people, in habits and in activities. A person with no earth might build a weekly routine. Someone with no air might seek out conversations that widen their view.

Also check the signs of the planets near the rising sign and the Moon. A single placement in the missing element can matter more than the count suggests.

How does element balance relate to other results?

Elements show style, while planet strength shows how well each planet can use it. A grand trine is a pattern made within one element. A stellium in one sign tips that element’s balance sharply. Element balance also feeds into the core types, which describe how the whole personality is arranged.

What do I need to use it?

Your birth date and place, plus the time if you want the rising sign counted. The birth chart calculator includes the element balance together with your chart wheel, chart shape and core type.

Questions

What is element balance in astrology?

It is a count of how many of your planets sit in fire, earth, air and water signs. The pattern shows which styles come easily and which need effort.

Is a missing element a problem?

No. It means that style is not automatic for you. Many people with a missing element learn it through other people or through effort, and often handle it well.

Do the Sun and Moon count more than other planets?

Many astrologers give extra weight to the Sun, Moon and rising sign. The calculator shows both a simple count and a weighted view, so you can compare them.

Do I need my birth time?

Only for the rising sign. Planet signs do not depend on time, except sometimes the Moon on a day when it changes sign.
