Which zodiac sign is February?

People with February birthdays are Aquarius from the 1st to the 18th and Pisces from about the 19th. The changeover falls on February 18 or 19, so those are the two days that need a closer look.

February is also the only month with a birthday that does not exist three years out of four. If you were born on February 29, you are a Pisces, every time.

Late winter, slowly turning

In the Northern Hemisphere, February is the tail end of winter. The light lasts longer than at New Year. The ground is still cold, and spring is more promise than fact.

The Sun moves through the middle and late degrees of Aquarius for most of the month. It entered that sign around January 20, so by February 1 it sits near 12°, and by the 18th it is close to 29°. Then it crosses into Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, and the final stretch of the Sun’s yearly circle begins.

So February sits between two things. It closes one cycle while the next is still being prepared.

February Aquarius, settled and independent

A February Aquarius comes across as more relaxed than the January version. The sign’s fixed air nature has had time to settle. This is the friend who runs the group chat, makes sure everyone is invited and then shows up in an outfit nobody else would have picked.

Aquarius is about the group and the future. It values honesty, fairness and room to be different. Born in the middle of the sign, these people pair a calm surface with strong convictions underneath. They can disagree with you warmly, over coffee, and stay your friend for twenty years.

Distance is their usual blind spot. When a friend calls upset, an Aquarius starts with solutions or a bigger-picture view. They care, in a cooler register. Saying “that sounds awful, I’m here” first goes a long way.

Valentine’s Day falls in their season, and it suits them better than you might expect. Many February Aquarians would rather plan a creative, slightly odd date than a predictable dinner.

February Pisces, the first wave

Around February 19, everything softens. Pisces is a mutable water sign, ruled by Neptune in modern astrology and by Jupiter in the older tradition. It is the sign of imagination, empathy and permeable boundaries.

February Pisces are born in the first decan, with the sign’s own ruler doubled up. Their sensitivity sits right on the surface. They notice moods in a room before anyone speaks and tear up at a song in the grocery store. They know what a friend needs before the friend does.

At work, they do best where feeling and imagination are assets. Creative fields, care work and teaching suit them, as does anything that rewards reading people well. Hard deadlines feel like cold water. Many Pisces handle them by working in bursts, then disappearing for a day to recover.

Boundaries matter most for them. Pisces absorbs, and without some limits it takes in other people’s problems along with their joy.

The February 18 and 19 cusp

The Sun moves from Aquarius into Pisces at one exact moment each year. Depending on the year and your time zone, that moment can land on February 18 or February 19.

For February 1 to 17, you are Aquarius. For February 20 to 29, you are Pisces. That holds every year.

For February 18 and 19, enter your exact birth time. Without it, the date alone gives you the likelier sign and no guarantee.
